Campbell County Animal Center recovering from parvo outbreak

(WBIR) The Campbell County Animal Center is working to recover after suffering a parvo outbreak last week. The disease in dogs is highly contagious and can become life-threatening.

The center had to euthanize twelve dogs because of the outbreak, according to Campbell County Mayor E.L. Morton. He said the center is now also working to improve the floor so that it's easier to clean.

Donations in the form of cleaning supplies and floor sealant solution are being accepted.

Deputies believe stranded motorist died of weather exposure

Hunters discovered the body of man believed to have died of exposure to extreme weather in Campbell County.

Sunday afternoon, hunters found the body of Kenneth M. Mozingo, 32, of Duff in a wooded area several miles off the main road in the Tackett Creek area. Campbell County deputies believe that Mozingo's vehicle was stuck or broke down.

According to preliminary reports, investigators believe Mozingo died from exposure to extreme weather.

Big South Fork looking for recreation vendors

Officials at the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (BSF) are looking for folks interested in partnering with them to give visitors more to do.

The BSF is 125,000 acres of untouched wilderness located on the Cumberland Plateau. They get more than 600,000 visitors a year.

The park is currently recruiting any interested applicants to provide hayrides, swimming lessons, guided horse rides, shuttling, or set up food stands.

Campbell County Schools closed for illness

(WBIR) Campbell County Schools are closed Wednesday through Friday for illness.

Director of Schools Donnie Poston said they already had 1100 students out sick by Tuesday afternoon. About 1000 students missed class Monday for illness.

Poston said most of the students and teachers affected had caught a stomach bug, but some had the flu.

He said they'll work to clean the schools during the long weekend. Students already had an extra day off Monday, Feb. 16 because of Presidents Day.
