TBI: Former Scott Co. deputy stole confiscated drugs

A former Scott County deputy stole confiscated drugs and broke into his co-worker's offices, according to a TBI investigation.

Cody Scott Yancey, 25, of Helenwood, was charged with three counts of Burglary, one count of Theft under $500, one count of Possession of Burglary Tools, one count of Official Misconduct, one count of Tampering with Evidence, two counts of Attempted Tampering with Evidence, and two counts of Vandalism under $500

The investigation into Yancey began on October 16, 2014, at the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler.

Agents learned that Yancey illegally entered the department's temporary evidence storage room several times between September 22 and October 14, and removed several pieces of drug evidence.

They also said he changed the locks ono the evidence storage box and twice broke into detectives' offices.

The sheriff fired Yancey after the investigation. He was arrested and booked into the Scott County Jail on $10,000 bond on Tuesday.
