DUFF - On Wednesday morning, crews from Texas exhumed the body of an unidentified woman, who was slain 17 years ago and left in Campbell County.

In October 1998, officials recovered the body of a woman with a bullet hole in her skull in Stinking Creek. The body has never been identified.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NAMUS) exhumed the body, which rested in a metal coffin.

Only bones remained.

They'll extract DNA from the remains in hopes of matching it with samples on file.

NAMUS has a list of potential matches of cases in Texas, and officials are hoping to get new leads.
