Receiving of friends for fallen Jacksboro detective Wednesday

The family of a Jacksboro police detective who died in a crash will receive friends Wednesday afternoon.

Detective Mike Starrett was on duty and on his way to the scene of another accident that killed a man and child, when he crashed nearly head-on into a car driving the opposite direction.

The receiving of friends will be Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in LaFollette. His funeral is Thursday at 11 a.m. Starrett is survived by his wife and son.

The Campbell County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Friday night that Starrett died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Starrett served as a deputy sheriff in Campbell County for four years and has been a detective for the Jacksboro Police Department for the past 12 years.
