New promise for VA Clinic in Campbell County

Plans for a Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Campbell County are renewed.

Originally, the Department of Veterans Affairs promised to build the facility in Campbell County in 2008.

Four years later, there's still no clinic.

Now, Tennessee VA officials promise start-up funds are in place for the facility.

Approximately $1 million from the Rural Health Initiative will help VA officials find the proper building to lease and make any renovations needed.

Local veterans believe the outpatient clinic will be busy.

"There are 3,500 [veterans] in Campbell County.  The other counties that surround this county, there are about 18,000 veterans," Campbell County Veterans Service Officer Kevin Walden said.

An opening date for the VA clinic will be determined after a facility is chosen.
